I recently discovered the city of San Francisco and it is truly unlike anything else I’ve seen. It is a lovely city that has everything from great establishments to little “mom and pop shops”, hippies to businessmen, fine art to commercial shopping. Then there are also places in the city that are must-see’s like Fisherman’s Wharf, Haight-Ashbury, the Golden Gate Park, Union Square, Market Street, Alcatraz, and so much more!
One adventure I was able to try is the journey across the Golden Gate Bridge. The magnificent structure stands as a landmark for the city. Built in 1935, the bridge truly is a testament of American design ingenuity.
Anyone who has gone to or lived in San Francisco definitely has to experience walking or biking across this structure. When I took the walk across, it was the beginning of fall and the weather was drop dead gorgeous. Equipped with my camera, I started the 1.7 mile expedition. First of all, on a sunny day the view of the city from the bridge is utterly fantastic, which should be enough reason to go do it. Second, was because of its historical significance. The Golden Gate Bridge, for the longest time, has stood as a beacon that represents the city of San Francisco. And third, as a sort of moment in time to think and speculate on many things as you’re crossing the bridge to the other side.
There was a great sense of achievement getting to the other side after walking across the bay. It is definitely a worthwhile activity for anybody to feel the city’s pulse. And after going through the city and then looking at it from the great Golden Gate Bridge, anyone will agree with the song: “I left my heart in San Francisco”.
