While I was in high school, I was a member of Junior Statesman of America (JSA), which is a political debate club for high schoolers. In the Fall, many schools get together for a big convention called Fall State. All the JSA chapters debate over current political issues. It's a really fun weekend for everyone. However, something happened that somewhat soured the trip for me.
The only bad thing about Fall State is that is required a 4 hour bus ride to Madison, Wisconsin. Once our chapter got there, we were rushing to change into our business casual clothes and make it to the debates on time. We were running late didn't even have time to check into our rooms before the debates started! We found an empty conference room in the hotel to keep all our luggage in during the first round of debates. Most people hurried off to the lobby bathroom to change, but I thought I knew otherwise. I figured, there are so many people rushing around in here, no one will notice if I just change in here really quickly. So I did.
I thought I was going to get away with it, and I almost did! I guess I wasn't as sneaky as I thought. A guy who was on the trip with us must have noticed because all of a sudden I heard him shout "What'd you say, Allison??" Everyone in the chapter must've thought I had an important announcement so everyone looked at me RIGHT as I was about to pull my sweater over my head.
So embarrassing! I definitely learned my lesson: no matter how big of a rush I am in, I will always find time to change in private!
