Once my mother noticed this, she called me and my brother over to her.
In a similar example, my friends and I were all hanging out. In the group of us, there were 2 (Tyler and Caleb) white guys, 3 (Marc, Keith and Adam) black guys and me of course. We were standing around my friend's car waiting for the fire works to start. I noticed a police car that circled near us and really thought nothing of it. Later, the police car rolled up close and said to Tyler "are they causing you any trouble?"
He was confused at first until the police pointed to me and my other friends. He said "no, they're my friends" The police then said "well if you have any trouble, we'll be right around here."
My friends and I are anime loving nerds. I hate that we get treated a certain way for being black. It's not as if we looked suspicious or were even doing anything suspicious. For God's sake we were sipping on Caprisuns!
At one point, I lived in a pretty rural area of Georgia. My next door neighbors and the neighbors behind me were very racist. My neighbors next door had a son. One day their son was outside screaming at the top of his lungs "WHITE POWER!!! WHITE POWER RULES THE WORLD!!!!" It wasn't anything against me personally, but it was very unnerving . I was friends with the boy who lived behind me. His name was Cole. One day I went to his house and we were playing basketball. His mother came out of the house and said. "Cole what the **** are you doing?" He then told me I should leave. As I was walking away she said "you better not ever let another ****** over here."
At the time, I was like 11 or 12 so I didn't fully understand the extent of the situation. Looking back on it, it really just hurts.
