An Ostrich Adventure

We were making a long exciting trip down to the ocean by car. After the first day of driving, we reached our first night's destination, at the Whispering Winds Bible Camp camp ground in Arkansas. After driving onto the grounds, we got out of the car to explore.
We had fond memories of this camp ground. Once, when I had been six, my younger sister three years old, and my little brother a baby, we had spent some time on this campground. We enjoyed the moss, and the wooded environment, different than the flat plains of our home state. One day during our stay there, my little sister had an urgent need to get to the rest room quickly, so my dad picked her up and ran her from our cabin to where the restroom facilities were. On the way, one of her little shoes fell off her feet. Because they were in such a hurry, they didn't stop to pick it up then, my dad assuring my sister that they'd get it on the way back. However, on the way back, they couldn't find it anywhere. The shoe had disappeared! My little sister was devastated when she learned that one of the friendly dogs on the campground had found it, and chewed it up. Even though my mother later bought her shoes identical to the ones she had lost, she never forgot that day that the dog chewed up her shoe.
Our memories of the camp did not end there. Once we had been at the very same camp for a family retreat with our relatives. During our stay in Arkansas, we went on a train ride on a little train pulled by a steam engine, and also saw a lion cub, which was available to be petted. Our adventures also took us to a cave, to explore the underground wonders such as stalactites and stalagmites.
Now we were once again at this campground! This time, as we got out of the car, little did we know the unique type of memories we would have from this stay at the camp! As we walked around, we found a fenced field near the property. What was inside the fence? Horses? Cows? No! There were ostriches inside!
As we came up to the fence to see these huge birds which were taller than we were, they also came near to the fence, their huge necks reaching towards us. We got grass and plants and offered them to the ostriches to eat, being careful not to be pecked by their large beaks. We enjoyed our overnight stay, and the next morning continued on our trip towards the ocean!
