I looked through the window, the city was calling me. I planned to stay in the hotel, but that didn’t make any sense. I couldn’t stay there forever thinking about Bob and his wedding. I was miles away from home and I couldn’t do anything about it. I knew I would not do anything even if I was home. I never fight for people; I only fight for my ideals and my dreams. Maybe that’s why I am still alone and still dreaming. I couldn’t help myself and there I was, in a hotel room in Chicago, I could do million things but I was just imagining him and the moments we had together. I closed the window and put back the curtain. I decided to walk downtown because I could think about everything while relaxing in Chicago. I didn’t want to miss this city, I missed Bob and that was enough.
When I arrived in front of the “Cloud Gate” I saw kids, mothers, youngsters, tourists taking photos with this funny sculpture. I came closer and I enjoyed watching my reflection in it. It was interesting how it changed if you come closer or you go further. The whole city was changing at the same time with you. It could be something metaphorical, I thought, but I stopped myself because I was not in the mood for my usual philosophical ideas.
I saw a man waving at me. He was tall, taller than normal because I was watching at his reflection. He looked funny. I just wanted to turn and see him in reality, but he showed me that I should not. He acted like a clown, real professional clown with such a dark hear and I accepted his game. I didn’t turn and we communicated by our reflections. He moved closer and further and his reflection was different every time, contrary to mine, because I was not moving at all.
Unexpectedly, he took a flower out of his pocket and gave it to me; actually to my picture in the sculpture. I wanted to turn because he looked so attractive, so mystic and so funny, but he showed me ‘no’ with his finger again.
Suddenly a group of students came and started to run around. They were noisy and disorganized. I was still looking at my strange friend when I saw a child taking the flower from his hand while jumping in the air. In less than a second the child was on the ground. My flower was under a woman’s shoe. I turned around without thinking. I have to say that I did it for the flower because the kid didn’t interest me, he was fine. I took the flower, the small red rose and I smelled it. It was fresh. I kissed it. I turned to see the reaction of my new friend. I felt nervous and it was funny. I wanted to meet him. But, he was not there. I turned to the sculpture once again but obviously he was not at the same place. He left. He disappeared.
I felt disappointed, but still I took my rose and I walked away. This meeting made my day and Bob was not in my thoughts for the first time of my staying in US.
